What are amino acids? You may have heard amino acids referred to as the ‘building blocks of protein’. They are an essential part of a healthy, well-functioning body. Almost everyone can benefit from amino acids. We have amino acid formulas for sports, spots, hair and skin, immunity and more! Tell us your goals, and we can create the perfect amino acid infusion to help you achieve them.

“Amino acid infusions are ideal for those looking to fine-tune their bodies and take things to the next level – people who want highly targeted Improvement and regeneration. Many of our patients will come to us before or after a big sporting or work event and life events like exams or weddings for an amino acid infusion to enhance their performance and/or recovery. Increasingly, we are also finding that vegans and vegetarians are coming to us proactively to address any potential lack of non-animal protein within their diets.”

Amino acids – the basics

There are 20 different amino acids, which help the body make protein and activate the enzymes responsible for creating muscle. But they have many, many more functions and can even influence our mood and behaviour.

Amino acids can broadly be split into two main categories: essential and non-essential. Whilst non-essential amino acids are created in the body, we cannot make our own essential amino acids. This means that they need to be consumed via food (for example, meat, dairy, and soy) or supplements, hence making them ‘essential’ for health.

When we eat protein, it is broken down into amino acids, and these are then utilised by the body to fuel itself, repair tissue damage, build muscle, boost the immune system, aid digestion and more.

However, despite eating plenty of protein products, many of us don’t get enough. This can result from issues with the digestive system, stress, infections, poor diet and more.

The benefits of amino acid IV infusions – what do they do?

What do amino acids do? The benefits are many and varied. There are too many to list here, but we have highlighted what we think are the most significant:

  • Help rebuild muscles and tissues that are under constant wear and tear with high endurance, extreme and elite sports
  • Serve as building blocks of protein and cell metabolism (producing protein for immune system development, maintaining cell volume and fluid balance)
  • Aid in the metabolism of fats
  • Maintain metabolic pathways that are necessary for maintenance, growth, reproduction and immunity (defence against infection or toxins)
  • Help regulate the nervous system and the muscles and play an essential part in keeping the brain and heart-healthy
  • It can further help as an antioxidant by binding and neutralising free radicals with detox functions
  • Reduce the oxidative damage caused by sunlight
  • Serve as building blocks of collagen and immune components
  • Improve oxygen transfer in the circulation and cellular respiration
  • Reduce allergic responses by reducing histamine release
  • Improve iron utilisation
  • Help preserve energy in the liver when strength is depleted from other energy sources
  • It may help regulate blood pressure and prevent heart failure and arrhythmias
  • Maintain skin, hair and nail health

Our amino acid IV infusions can be comprised of some of the following ingredients:

  • Amino acids (Taurine, L-Carnitine, Acetylcysteine, L-Arginine, L-Carnosine)
  • BCAAs (L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Valine, L-Lysine/Proline)
  • Tryptophan, Glutamine, L-Methionine, L-Threonine, L-Histidine, L-Ornithine
  • Vitamin C as an addition
  • Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 as additions

Our amino acid infusions are mixed freshly on-site and are not prone to oxidative damage like pre-prepared mixes. They can be delivered via an IV drip. Our IV clinician will discuss this with you.

The Harpal way

Whether you are looking for a quick, one-off boost or help manage long-term chronic conditions, we can customise our amino acid infusions specifically for you. We will have a brief consultation with you before the infusion to assess which amino acids you would benefit from most and be even more precise about what you may need.

The Essential amino acid infusion is our most popular. Other popular blends include Hair & Skin, Sport & Muscle, and Immune. However, our IV clinician can further tailor it to your individual goals and requirements with extra vitamins, minerals and other amino acids. Simply tell us your goals during your consultation, and we will design your infusion according to your needs. This could be a one-off (before or after a big event, i.e. marathon) or taken as a course 3-6 weeks apart.
