Why Harpal Clinic?

We are known as a trusted clinic for botulinum toxin injections. Many of Dr Harpal Bains’ patients come via word of mouth due to her skills in achieving a natural look. Dr Bains will listen to your concerns during your consultation and tailor the treatment to your goals and requirements. Having trained with a plastic surgeon and with more than 16 years of experience, her skills and knowledge of the face are extensive.

“I was trained to look at a face as a whole and treat the entire face – rather than just looking at a single area. Done right, Botox can achieve some really great results in slowing down the signs of ageing. I also specialise in 'soft' correction for men who don't want to look quite so angry or stressed – think those deep lines between the eyebrows – but need a little something to help them. So, discuss your 'ideal' with me, and I will do my best to achieve it.”

What is ‘baby Botox’?

pink pill

Introductory toxin for those venturing for the first time or for those who prefer a very natural look. The face as a whole and the client’s concerns are addressed, and toxin is applied to areas that require it – so two or more areas may be targeted, but total toxin volume used stays the same. This may not remove all the wrinkles and will still allow some movement. If you like this but feel that you want fewer lines or movement, you can top it up at an additional charge. Top-ups can be performed up to 4 weeks post-treatment. Up to 20 units are used for baby Botox.

Where can I have Botox?

Anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly used to improve the look of frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes, forehead lines and laughter lines. You can also benefit if you want to look less tired or angry (a request we frequently get from men). Dr Harpal Bains also uses Botox for calf reshaping, jawline slimming, the Nefertiti neck lift, teeth clenching, headaches and knotted upper back muscles and to treat excessive sweating.

The Nefertiti neck lift

Make a dramatic improvement to how you look, without costing an arm and a leg. With age, the bands around the neck can pull the face down, which causes heavy visual ageing. The Nefertiti line treatment improves the ‘stringy’ appearance of the neck while at the same time preventing the face from being pulled downward. It’s the non-invasive equivalent to a facelift – without the price tag!

How does Botox work?

Botox and Bocouture are branded forms of botulinum toxin. Many people think of Botox as a wrinkle reducer, but it’s much more clever than that! The toxin is injected into the muscles rather than the wrinkles themselves, temporarily relaxing the expression lines. Doing this blocks the uptake of acetylcholine, which sends signals from our nerve endings to the muscles telling them to move. Anti-wrinkle injections effectively train the underlying muscles to avoid contracting – the movement that creates the wrinkles in the first place!

What causes wrinkles?

Many different factors cause wrinkles, and whilst genetics and having an expressive face can undoubtedly contribute, stress is usually the principal offender. We all have stress in our lives – some more than others – and it can dramatically impact our skin and facial features. How? It plays havoc with our hormones, which can cause imbalances that affect everything from our mood to our appearance. As we age, an oestrogen imbalance, in particular, can manifest in poor skin quality, resulting in breakouts, thinning skin and wrinkles, too. Learn more about stress and how it affects our appearance. And let’s not forget sun exposure – have you been applying SPF daily?

The Harpal way

Looking more youthful isn’t just about Botox. It is something that needs to be addressed on multiple levels; if we take care of each layer of the skin (the surface, middle and deepest layers), we have a much better chance of maintaining excellent skin for our age. Whilst we will always be happy to see you as a one-off, we prefer to work with you long-term. We look at your goals, skin concerns, and budget and plan to achieve those goals.

This could include dermal fillers, treatments like radio-frequency microneedling to stimulate new collagen and elastin growth in the skin, regenerating surface skin with microdermabrasion or a good chemical peel. Every little helps and your skin will show you when it’s in a good place.

Beauty is more than skin deep. As Dr Bains explains, “Our skin is really revealing. As the largest organ in the body, we should take it seriously and think of it as a tool to point out issues with other things within the body. Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and if it’s not happy, there’s every chance that something else in your body, like your hormones, are not happy either. As a functional medicine clinic, we can address any underlying issues with your hormones.”

"Do you have a yearly beauty budget? Tell us, and we can create a bespoke plan to get the most out of your budget whilst meeting your goals."

Is Botox safe?

Botox injections are considered safe when performed by an experienced doctor.

How long will the procedure last?

15-20 minutes.

Are Botox injections painful?

You will feel a slight sting.

What happens straight after treatment?

You can continue with your day, as usual; however, you may experience some bruising or swelling. You should refrain from vigorous exercise for 48 hours.

When will I see the results?

You will notice results after a few days and see the full benefit two weeks after your initial treatment. If you feel that the desired outcome is not satisfactory, please let us know within two weeks, and we will arrange a complimentary review and top-up.

How long does Botox last?

After your follow-up consultation, we suggest returning every 3-6 months for the first year or two. After a few treatments, you will find your muscle becomes flatter and fewer top-ups are needed as time goes on.

What happens if I stop Botox?

Although wrinkles can come back, if you have Botox, you are always in a better position (in terms of visually ageing skin) than someone who has not had Botox, as you have now bought some time in delaying the muscular actions that cause wrinkles.

What are the long-term benefits and results?

From smoothing out wrinkles to stopping excessive sweating to looking younger, there are many. Botox can also help those who suffer from headaches.

"So happy with my Botox, my face still moves and looks very natural, not frozen as with other practitioners. Botox is the best thing I ever did; thank you, Dr Bains".

Fees

In the UK, it is traditional for clinics to charge for Botox by the number of areas treated. This can be costly and put people off seeking treatment. At Harpal Clinic, we charge by the number of Botox units used. This means that if you desire a more natural look, we may be able to treat more than one area with the same amount of Botox.

We offer a review two weeks after your treatment, where a complimentary top-up is offered if necessary. Any top-ups for the same areas after the two weeks will be charged at £50. This does not apply to ‘baby Botox’.

*Soft Correction: This refers to a partial correction (or full in some cases if your muscles are very weak). You may still have some movement with this correction. It’s a more natural look and a fairer method of pricing where the cost is for the quantity of botulinum toxin used and not the number of areas treated. If top-ups are required for soft correction, this will be complimentary for the first time only. We will assume that you prefer a fuller correction for future appointments and charge you accordingly (e.g. instead of 2 soft areas, you will be charged for 2 areas).
