If you’ve been to your doctor or even dermatologists but haven’t been able to find a practical solution, it’s time to book a doctor-led hair + skin consultation with our doctors.
Symptoms like hair loss, hair growth on the body, dry and thinning hair, acne, and ageing skin can knock one’s confidence. Suppose you’ve done the rounds of steroids, antibiotics, and vitamin A products but are still struggling with skin issues. In that case, our detailed consultation will help to identify the root cause of the problem. Then we’ll use a holistic approach to manage the situation effectively to help you regain your confidence.
"In our experience, many hair and skin issues are caused by underlying gut issues, stress, nutrition or hormonal imbalance."
Dr. Harpal Bains
There is a strong link between the gut and our skin, which is why an unhealthy bacterial profile in the gut can manifest in the skin’s appearance. If you have gut problems, inflammation is likely, and symptoms can also include gas and bloating.
Underneath these symptoms, conditions could consist of food intolerances, irritable bowel, leaky gut, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, bacterial/fungal/candida overgrowth in the gut.
Our hormones play a part in almost all functions in our bodies, including our skin and hair. Oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all have prominent roles to play in the health of our hair and skin. When our hormones are higher or lower than normal, this can lead to hair loss where you don’t want it, hair growth where you don’t want it, skin issues such as acne, rosacea and dullness, and more.
You may be wondering how we can help. After all, isn’t skin and hair a dermatologist’s speciality? We differentiate ourselves from dermatologists and GPs because we do not encourage steroids, antibiotics and prescription retinol-based products. Whilst there is a place for these treatments, our experience has shown that dealing with the root cause of the problem in most cases is much more effective. This approach means that issues are often addressed for life, and we can even uncover and improve issues you didn’t know you had, such as PCOS and fatigue. This could be by addressing hormonal imbalances, nutritional regulation, or other concurrent diseases and issues.
Our doctors are not just hormone specialists but also functional medicine practitioners. We prefer using root-cause approaches to achieve long-term results with the added benefit of increased all-around health and vitality.
1. The initial consultation
✔ 60-minute initial consultation
✔ 20-minutes for doctor to interpret labs and write a report with a treatment plan
✔ 20-minute consultation discussing report & treatment plan with patient
2. The tests
The doctor will suggest a suitable test based on your consultation. This is at an extra cost depending on what is required. In our experience, when it comes to skin issues, causes are generally hormonal, stress or gut-related. Testing for these will be discussed in detail. Testing may cover a detailed hormone panel (oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone – total and measured free, DHEA, detailed thyroid, etc.) or another test (for example, DUTCH test, gut test, toxicology or chronic infection).
3. The follow-up
A follow-up is undertaken 3 months after the initial consultation to reassess management and make necessary adjustments. After that, we recommend another follow-up after 6 months if you still need it. Many patients find that most issues are resolved at this point.
4. Other benefits
The doctor can also liaise with our medical aesthetician to create a skincare regime, and advise on any suitable aesthetic treatments for your particular area of concern.
