Hormone Therapy
We can help you navigate the challenges of menopause with bioidentical hormones. We empower you to take control of your health both now and into older age, because you deserve to enjoy life and thrive.
Menopause doesn’t just signal the end of a woman’s ability to reproduce; it also causes epigenetic changes which play a pivotal role in accelerating biological ageing, negatively impacting longevity and limiting independence.
Although women live longer than men, research reveals that from age 65, women can also expect to spend more of their remaining lives with a disability. The changes that occur in the body due to menopause mean that women are at far greater risk than men of osteoporosis, depression, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s disease.
We don’t believe in just accepting this as the norm. We don’t believe that living half of your adult life in poor health should be accepted as the norm, especially when you can take control and continue to enjoy the activities you love with bioidentical hormones for menopause.
Prioritising BHRT can help ensure you have strong healthy bones, brain health, cardiovascular health, and overall wellbeing in addition to perimenopausal and menopausal symptom relief.
As a longevity clinic our doctors are uniquely placed to provide bioidentical hormones, combined with longevity testing and analysis that addresses all aspects of your longer term health.
Although achieving hormone optimisation may be your initial focus with us, we can also look at other areas when it comes to your longer term health, including:
✓ Gut health
✓ Stress (cortisol) and lifestyle factors
✓ Nutrition
✓ Cardiovascular health
✓ Immune system (inflammation)
✓ DNA & genetic factors
As a small team, we take pride in being able to offer a deeply personalised service to each and every one of our patients. All treatment plans are targeted, ensuring that it works optimally for you, accounting for your age, preferences, lifestyle, and budget.
While your decision to choose BHRT is individual to you, let’s take a quick look at what BHRT can help you achieve:
✓ Better quality of life for longer
✓ Better overall health as you age
✓ Better bone health
✓ Better cardiovascular health
✓ Better brain health
✓ Better skin and hair
✓ Better sense of wellbeing
✓ Better weight management
✓ Relief from symptoms of menopause
Although the average age of menopause is 51, we often see women in their 40s with perimenopausal symptoms. Experience of menopause symptoms vary greatly, and whilst some women have no or light symptoms, others find they make simple tasks and daily life a real challenge. Below we have outlined some of the more common ones we see in perimenopausal and menopausal patients:
Even if your symptoms are subtle, underlying cardiovascular health, brain health and bone health are still impacted as a result of the hormonal changes in the body, leaving you at greater risk of certain health concerns. BHRT can benefit all women of perimenopausal age or older to live life more fully.
Our patients comment that they have better energy, quality of life, and are able to do more activities they enjoy.
When it comes to hormones we take a broader and more refined approach. We routinely assess oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and thyroid hormones including T3. However, depending on your chosen consultation pathway, we can also assess – where required – melatonin and HGH. Our thorough, detail-oriented approach allows us to carefully tailor a treatment plan for you, considering your hormone health with a longevity focus to help you live better for longer.
Many doctors remain cautious about prescribing HRT long-term, or to those wanting to start HRT later in life, despite outdated concerns now being widely debunked. In fact, many NHS doctors are now prescribing body identical hormones. However, patients who have decided to come to us often report not feeling secure as a result of inconsistent supply and frequent medication changes, sometimes leading to non-identical substitutes being offered during shortages.
At Harpal Clinic we provide HRT using bioidentical hormones. These are plant-based and are identical to those found in the body. One of the great things about bioidentical hormones is that they are completely customisable and created specifically for each patient. This means we can tailor not just the hormones and dosages, alongside the application method giving your body exactly what it needs.
For your peace of mind, all our hormones are of the highest quality. They come from trusted pharmacies that are regulated to the highest ethical standards, and whom we know have solid supply chains. Alternatively, we are also able to source body identical hormones which many of our patients love. Learn about the difference between body identical and bioidentical hormones.
We have many resources available on hormones and encourage each of our patients to utilise these at all stages of their journey.
Book online or call us with any questions you may have
You will spend time with your doctor discussing your medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and long term health goals.
Following on from your telephone or video consultation, we will usually recommend a series of comprehensive blood tests tailored to your specific requirements. This allows your doctor to get an in-depth look at your hormone levels.
We’ve recently introduced remote testing for our detailed blood panels which means that you won’t need to travel into the clinic for your tests. Wherever you are based in the UK, you can have blood drawn locally and then sent directly to our lab partner for testing. Alternatively, you can also do the Dutch test, which is a highly comprehensive urine test that tests for all your sex hormones as well as stress hormones, precursor hormones, neurotransmitters in the brain and organic acids.
Your doctor will create a bespoke treatment plan in collaboration with you based on your consultation and test results.
We will assist you with bespoke compounded medications, prescriptions and/or supplements.
You can find out more about the cost of bioidentical HRT for menopause at Harpal Clinic on our Fees page.
BHRT treatment is just as individual as you are. Your journey with us will begin with an initial consultation, blood tests, and, once your results are back, a treatment planning consultation before you are provided with your hormone prescription(s). Bioidentical hormones are compounded bespoke for you based on exactly what your body needs from our trusted compounding pharmacy.
There are a few things to consider when it comes to the price of your hormones:
When you first get started on hormones, we prefer to separate them and start at lower doses in case you react negatively to any of them, then build up where necessary. This means that the initial costs tend to be higher. However, once we find dosages that work for you, we can combine certain hormones (for example oestrogen + progesterone + melatonin capsules) which brings the price right down, typically to less than a cup of coffee (< £3) a day per pill. There will be a small degree of variation depending on the ultimate dosing/hormone but this is a rough indication of what you can expect.
Please note that we can also provide body identical hormones which are more cost effective but come in fixed dosages. Please read about the difference between body identical and bioidentical hormones.
